our new compendium, Needfire, brings together six editions of our seasonal anthologies – Rituals and tidings- into one big, beautiful book.

With cover art by founding anomaly member Andrew tedesco and featuring the art, poetry and prose of over sixty artists from New england and beyond, this book is the culmination of three years of hard work. Beginning in June of 2020, Anomaly Poetry had to pivot to the digital realm with the rest of the world. From Zoom open mic nights to ebook versions of their books, the poets and artists kept the fires alive. Emerging from that difficult time, Anomaly applied for the Artnet grant through the City of new bedford, and was granted the funds to bring their project to life. Now, with needfire, they bring those books into the real world – and are poised to continue their work of publishing and celebrating strange and exceptional voices.

while amazon does take its share of the sales price, the remaining percentages of proceeds will go right back to Anomaly POetry to fund the next round of books. we are also planning to continue our efforts to become a full-fledged nonprofit organization. to that end, we are going to be more proactive around donations. We’re currently set up to accept funds via Venmo! we’ve got a tiny nest egg left over from the grant money, and will be working towards incorporating as a non-profit. Any and all donations will go towards that goal, as well as ensuring that we can keep our open mic events and our book submissions free and accessible to all.
