Update as of 2/6/25: This event will be taking place at the First Unitarian Church of New Bedford, located at 71 8th Street, New Bedford MA 02740. We’ll be set up inside the Parish House, entrance at the back of the building!
We’re starting off 2025 with a bang! For February, poet Kathleen Latham will be visiting us to celebrate her recently published poetry collection, The Ones.

Kathleen is a winner of the Bridgeport Prize, the Writer’s Digest Short Short Story Competition, and a Bath Flash Fiction Award. Her work has been shortlisted for the Bevel Summers Prize, the First Pages Prize, and for contests in The Masters Review, New Flash Fiction Review, Fish Flash Fiction, and Southeast Review. She holds an undergraduate degree in psychology from Occidental College and a Master’s degree in human developement from Harvard University. She brings a masterful talent for storytelling into the poetry world with her collection, The Ones. This exploration of love, loss and the ways relationships shape us moves through prose poems and short verses that hit with surprising depth. With accessible language and an eye for detail, her debut collection chronicles how heartbreak echoes, self-discovery evolves, and the search for “The One” is never a straight line.

Join us for our traditional AHA Open Mic Night on Thursday, February 13th, 7pm-9pm. Sign-ups for the open mic will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Kathleen will give us a thirty-minute reading beginning at 7:30pm, followed by more open mic time! She’ll also have copies of her book for sale, so plan to bring your book fair money.
