Artist, historian, and scribe Aneshia Savino joins us for July’s Wild Hearts Open Mic, from 7-9pm at the Wild Heart Herb House at 777 Shawmut Ave, New Bedford.
Aneshia Savino (all pronouns) is a New Bedford-based apothecary, dancer, and scribe. They archive the Marie Equi Zine Library at BodyBodyBody and curated zines for the New Whaler with Kate Frazer-Rego and Beatrice Alder at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. In 2024, they premiered Dancing In Place, a dance nonument to New Bedford’s historic Italian and Jewish neighborhoods, and with Alyn Carlson collaborated on a sunlight/textile/movement performance at Hatch Street Studios. Aneshia, Joshua Tuason and Page Wooller cocreated Transfiguration, a Queer/Trans community dance ritual at the Flower District in Providence, RI. Zine titles include Lesser Known Moral Panics of Southern New England, Debitage: Poems for the Core, and Sensitive & Ambitious: small poems for big feelings . They love collaborating with plants to create apothecary goodies for friends and family.

During their feature set, Aneshia will be debuting a major project that has spanned years of creation and development. “Unbound Dance” is a poem for movement and a dance of liberation. Aneshia layers an original English language poem with Yiddish and choreographic translations. This multilingual embodiment expresses themes of assimilation, rhythm, discovery, resistance and release, spiritual resilience, and solidarity. This is a unique opportunity to witness multiple versions of an artist’s craft converging to create one unforgettable moment in time. If you’ve heard Neesh share at our open mics before, you know you’re in for a stunning night.
Join us at the beautiful Wild Hearts Herb House on Friday, July 18th from 7-9pm for Aneshia’s feature performance, along with our usual open mic. We’re also asking folks to “bring your own chair” for seating out in the garden! If the weather is on our side, we’ll open up the big windows and expand the circle out into the garden.
